• Lead editorial direction and manage the personnel of two newsrooms.
• Listen to and approve/critique story pitches from reporters, and community members who wish to contribute local content.

• Provide guidance for in-depth features or enterprise pieces written by local reporters, and pitch longform stories to the PSJ team.

• Oversaw the daily production of the sports section, including page trafficking.
• Covered high school, college and community sports across southwest Montana, writing everything from daily game stories to features on local standouts to breaking news.
• Wrote and managed a weekly sports betting column.
• Managed, trained and worked with the sports reporters to generate story ideas.
• Cultivated and maintained relationships with sources in a community that lives and breathes prep sports.
• Developed workflow that allowed our small two-person department to gather as many game results as possible to highlight schools across our vast coverage area.

• Covered high school and community sports around the greater Helena area.
• Launched a sports betting column for 406mtsports.com following the Montana Lottery’s rollout of Sports Bet Montana (the first and only legal sports book in the state) which I was able to turn into a weekly radio segment on KGEZ.
• Oversaw most of the desk duties for the IR sports section, such as copy editing and page trafficking. Also filled in to traffic the news section once a week.

Copy Editor/Page Designer | The Bulletin | Sept. 2017–Aug. 2019

• Proofread each article for the sports section for grammatical errors and to ensure adherence to AP style and Bulletin style guide.
• Worked with reporters, photographers, graphic artists, supervisors and others to ensure that all elements worked together properly in every package that accompanied an article.
• Wrote headlines, short article previews and photo captions to provide key information in tight spaces.
• Monitored stories and wrote accurate, engaging and SEO-friendly headlines for bendbulletin.com.
• In addition to copy editing responsibilities, oversaw the design and layout of the sports section in addition to special publications.
